Register with a GP and dentist

To access NHS healthcare while you're studying, register with a local GP (doctor) and dentist as soon as you arrive in London. Don't wait until you need medical treatment.

Your GP can help with a wide range of physical and mental health needs, including illnesses, vaccinations, contraception, cervical screening and referrals to specialist services.

Need health advice?

If you need medical advice or aren't sure which service to use, contact NHS 111 by calling 111 or visiting 111.nhs.uk. The service is free and available 24 hours a day.

Why you should register

Register with a GP near your term-time address so you can access local NHS services throughout the academic year.

Having a local GP makes it easier to:

  • Get appointments when you're unwell.

  • Access local mental health support and other NHS services.

  • Manage ongoing health conditions.

  • Receive repeat prescriptions without delays.

Changing GP is straightforward, and your medical records will transfer automatically. As registration can take a few weeks, it's best to do it as soon as you move.

How to register

  • Contact the practice to register using your personal details and your current GP information.

  • If you have a long-term condition, such as asthma, diabetes or epilepsy, book a free new patient health check after registering.

  • Keep your repeat prescriptions up to date and let your GP know if your address changes during your studies.
