f you're pregnant, adopting a child or becoming a parent during your studies, we're here to support you every step of the way. We believe parental responsibilities shouldn't prevent you from succeeding at university, and we'll work with you to help you balance your studies with family life. 

Support is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate students. If you're applying to study with us, we encourage you to contact our Admissions Team to discuss your individual circumstances and the support available. 

Letting us know 

To access support, let the University know as early as you can. You can speak to your Personal Tutor or another member of staff you feel comfortable with. Any information you share will be treated confidentially and handled with care. 

How we can support you 

We can provide advice and practical support throughout your pregnancy, adoption or transition to parenthood, including: 

  • Reasonable adjustments to your studies 

  • Study Breaks if you need to pause your course 

  • Support with assessments through extenuating circumstances, where appropriate 

  • Guidance for research students on funding and study arrangements 

  • Financial advice, including information about student funding and hardship support 

  • Wellbeing, counselling and chaplaincy services 

  • If your course includes fieldwork, we'll work with you to make suitable arrangements to ensure you can continue your studies safely.
